The key to the design of high quality Autogenous Veterinary Biologics is thorough comprehensive sampling and testing. Your Veterinarian is familiar with the clinical status of your herd or flock, and is best suited to initiate appropriate sampling and interpretation of lab results.
In consultation with the attending Vet, Gallant Custom Laboratories Inc. can propose a custom Autogenous Biologic that will target the specific disease causing organisms found in your herd or flock.
Virus Isolation: For Swine Influenza Virus it is key that you take a sample early in infection, either as a nasal swab or lung tissue. The sample must be shipped cold or frozen for early delivery to the lab. Gallant can screen for presence of virus using PCR and if positive can attempt isolation on tissue culture. We can sub-type for swine strains and arrange for further characterization if needed.

Virotyping for Pathogenic Escherichia coli:
Gallant Custom Laboratories Inc. can screen samples and isolates for common Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) and Extraintestinal Pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC). The intial screen will look for target virulence factors in the sample. If negative, the testing stops and the report is sent as ETEC or ExPEC negative. If a virulence factor is detected, individual isolates will be tested to find the ETEC or ExPEC strain for susceptibility testing and storage for autogenous bacterin production. For more information, please call or to view our communication on Escherichia coli Virotyping (Current Advances, September 27, 2010)
